The Old Is New

‘The old is new again’ is not a particularly original saying. It’s oft-repeated. Growing up, I didn’t think much of it. It just seemed like one of those things that people said.

Maybe it’s a reflection of time spent on the planet, that you start to see the truth in that statement.

Everything seems to run in cycles. We’re seeing it in fashion - young people today dress like people in the 90s. Streaming appears to be headed toward the cable route (Along with death and taxes, ads are also inevitable)

We’re also seeing it in fitness. I interviewed Rishabh Malhotra, founder of Tagda Raho - they are bringing back traditional Indian equipment workouts to help people with mobility and strength.

He talked about suffering from brachial neuritis, which led to a 75% loss in mobility in his left arm. Surgery had a 30% success rate and wasn’t worth the risk. He started working out with a Mudgar, a traditional Indian equipment. Within 4 months he had recovered full mobility.

5 KG mudgar

Rishabh is building an incredible company with a fantastic mission. They’re taking India’s traditional workout equipment, modularising it (for easy access) and creating workouts designed using modern science.

I genuinely believe this can be India’s biggest health export since Yoga. It allows people to work on both mobility and strength and is a good way to build community.

Yes, the old is new again. That’s a good thing. Take the old and the new, and the future is fantastic!
